"Job Sat Upon the Ash Heap" by Art Eschenlauer

Job sat upon the ash heap and scraped his sores with a pot shard.
He was a faithful man, even when facing disaster.

Satan said to God, "I have not seen a righteous man."
God said, "Look upon my servant, Job. He is peerless in his faith."
Then, Satan said to God, "If I take away his wealth, his health, his precious children,
then, surely, he will curse You!"

Job sat upon the ash heap and scraped his sores with a pot shard.
He was a faithful man, even when facing disaster.

"O, Lord, why me? Why have You made me Your enemy?
My health, my flocks, my ten beautiful children!
O, Lord, why me? What have I done to deserve this fate?
I've tried hard to serve You; I don't think I've failed You.
   Treat me justly!"

Job sat upon the ash heap and scraped his sores with a pot shard.
He was a faithful man, even when facing disaster.

"Job, I love you, even when you suffer.
When My children suffer, Job, I suffer, too.
I care for my children, each one I've created.
I come to be their Strength, not to condemn them."

Job rose up from the ash heap and cast away his pot shard.
God had no quarrel with him and showed how much God loved him.
